My most recent trip to Miami and Miami Beach was in March of 2007 and I was completely surprised to find more than what I had expected. Yes, Miami is a haven for the jet-setting beautiful people. But, one of the most remarkable aspects of this paradise is it’s accessibility to everybody. Yes, it’s sheik and cool, but is down to earth and easy to relax in.

I stayed at the Edon Roc Hotel on Collins Ave and it was awesome. The rooms were surprisingly spacious and tidy. The biggest news from the Edon Roc is their multi million dollar renovation they will be experiencing. The hotel will be closing in mid April and reopening in November of 2007 with a complete renovation. I toured some of the new rooms and I was amazed. Be sure to stay at the Edon Roc after November of 2007! The Edon Roc is located in mid beach next door to the Fountainbleau Hotel (a resort also synonymous with hip and trendy Miami Beachers). A cab ride to South Beach will cost you about 15 bucks.

Also there, I had a chance to spend some time at the Lincoln Road Mall. It’s an open air (closed to traffic) street filled with awesome restaurants, shops, bars and nightclubs. Be sure to eat at Sushi Samba. The food there was carefully prepared with obvious thought to palette detail and visual aesthetics. Don’t miss it, but be prepared to wait a few minutes on a busy weekend if you don’t have a reservation.

We had the distinct pleasure of broadcasting The Travel Show live from The Sony Ericsson Open on Key Biscayne. This venue is amazing. As some of you may know, I’m not a huge tennis fan, but I loved it. I was rooting with the rest of the crowd and having a great time. I mention this because if you get the chance, plan a trip to Miami so you can attend this event.

South Florida is synonymous with beautiful golf and Cradon is no different. That’s where I had a chance to play eighteen and the course was a perfect way to spend the afternoon. I loved the wildlife walking around on the course. However a raccoon stole half of my turkey sandwich out of the golf cart! Oh, well, fewer carbs for me is a good thing!

Time was short on this trip to Miami but it didn’t take me long to figure out I needed to return with more time on my hands. Miami has thousands of festivals, events and activities to take part in year-round. The weather is amazing and the water is clear as the Caribbean. If you are kind of a dork like me, don’t worry, Miami isn’t just for the beautiful people. You’ll find the residents happy to see you enjoying their sunny playground. Big thanks to Jen from GMCVB for taking good care of myself and my high maintenance producer Randy.
